After facilitating several groups, I began to notice that some folks had lost their pet(s) awhile ago. Some over a year and some even longer than that. Does that include you?
Have others noticed the length of your grief and told you "Just get over it. It's not a family member or another person. It's just an animal". Although this disorder does include grief from any source, pet or human, it can be a serious block to feeling better.
Do you yearn for your pet with intensity?
Do you feel that you just can't focus, function, or socialize as you use to? That your grief has become disabling?
If you have some, all, or even additions to the above symptoms, and are unable to find your way forward, we may be able to help.
There is a condition which is recognized by the American Psychological Association which includes the symptoms above and other symptoms as well. You may be suffering in vain, not realizing that there is a disorder which has a name and includes treatment.
Although the Buddy Pet Loss Support Group is not therapy, we may be able to help you to figure out if this disorder does include you. You may then be able to seek appropriate aid to move on with your life.
You may feel alone, but you are not. Others do care and do understand.
